Xinhua News Agency, Zhengzhou, September 2 (Reporters Shuangrui and Zheng Jiabao) In the Memorial Hall of the Revolutionary Base Area of Hebei-Shandong-Henan Border Region, Qingfeng County, Henan Province, there is a pair of cotton shoes with almost no cloth color in the exhibition room. The left foot patch accounts for half the upper, and the right foot patch covers most of the circle along the edge of the shoe.
67-year-old villager Chen Xizhuo stood in front of the showcase and remembered the past when he took it out from home. It was in the late 1970s, when the Shanguai Village Committee of Qingfeng County collected physical objects from the Anti-Japanese War and protected the former revolutionary site. His father Chen Hexiu handed over a pair of old cotton shoes that he was willing to wear during the Chinese New Year, saying that it was given to him by General Yang Yong.

"When my father was alive, he often said that Commander Yang used to live in my house and called me 'brother'." Chen Xizhuo said, with unconcealed pride in his tone.
The Hebei-Shandong-Henan Border Region is located at the junction of the three provinces and is one of the earliest revolutionary bases established by the Communist Party of China during the War of Resistance Against Japan. In September 1944, Yang Yong was appointed as the deputy commander of the Eighth Route Army Hebei-Shandong-Henan Military Region. He accompanied the head offices of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and other headquarters, and was stationed in Shanguai Village, Shuangmiao Township, Qingfeng County, Henan Province, and lived with the home of a villager Chen Hexiu.
That winter, after a heavy snowfall, Chen Hexiu was cleaning the snow in the yard. His family is poor and he has not married yet at the age of 31. He casually pulls a pair of single shoes on his feet and his toes are exposed.
Seeing this, Yang Yong turned his head and went back to the house to take out his cotton shoes and said, "Brother, I'll wear these cotton shoes for you."
Chen Xizhuo said that his father told this story of giving away shoes for many years.

Chen Xizhuo heard from his father that in addition to cotton shoes, there were still many things in the family left by General Yang Yong. There are washbasins, pancreas for washing hands, and a rare glass lamp.
After General Yang Yong left Shanguai Village, many of the things he left became Chen Hexiu's household items. Chen Hexiu attaches great importance to this pair of old cotton shoes and has always kept them at home. "My father was willing to take it out and wear it during the Chinese New Year. I helped put it on the feet in the years before leaving." When talking about the scenes back then, Chen Xizhuo was vividly remembered.
"A pair of cotton shoes and a piece of soap condenses the deep friendship between the party and the masses." Liu Zhangshun, a researcher in the party history of the memorial hall, said that in General Yang Yong's magnificent revolutionary career, these small things may be insignificant, but the memories of the relationship between the military and civilians took root in the hearts of the masses.
In the information room of the Qingfeng County Cultural Relics Bureau of Henan Province, there is a file that has been covered with dust for many years. This is the conversation record of Chen Chuanwen, the village party secretary of Shanguai Village, and others went to Beijing to visit Yang Yong's wife Comrade Lin Bin in August 1984.
"Old Yang left a pair of old cotton shoes for the landlord, which has been preserved until now."
After 40 years, they still remembered to mention the pair of cotton shoes left by General Yang Yong during the conversation.
"I am in the Political Department, and Yang Yong is in the Command. Although we are husband and wife, we are not bothered to eat and live, and we don't even have a bowl. We borrow the bowls of the masses from eating, without chopsticks, so we find a branch and grass stem for use. No one has ever called hardship or feared death." In the conversation recorded in the archives, Lin Bin recalled the scene of being single-guilled.
These memories are not only Lin Bin remembers, but also the people in the old district. A year later, in order to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, the Qingfeng County Cultural Center grandly held the "Northern Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Hebei-Shandong-Henan Branch, Hebei-Shandong-Henan Military Region and Military Industry Historical Sites Exhibition" in Shanguai Village. Many revolutionary cultural relics were brought to the booth, and General Yang Yong's cotton shoes were also among them.
If you never forget it, there will be a resounding sound. In 2004, the Memorial Hall of the former site of the revolutionary base in the Hebei-Shandong-Henan Border Region was officially established in Shanguai Village. The cotton shoes that have been stored in the display cabinet of the Shanguai Village ancestral hall were collected by the Memorial Hall. In 2018, the pair of cotton shoes were re-exhibited in General Yang Yong's life performance exhibition room.

In recent years, Qingfeng County, where Shanguai Village is located, has won the titles of "National Model Unit for Patriotism and Military Support" and "National Advanced Unit for Conscription Work". 7 people have won the second-class merit, 240 people have won the third-class merit, and 890 people have been rated as "Four-have" soldiers. Chen Jiuguo, secretary of the Party Branch of Shanguai Village, said that for more than 80 years, the spiritual spark of doing things and starting businesses has been endlessly in this land.
Now, although the witnesses of that year, Chen Hexiu and General Yang Yong are no longer there, when visitors see this pair of cotton shoes, they seem to have returned to the years of blood and fire, and feel the sincere emotions contained in the "brother".
