According to TASS on September 10, relevant Russian departments have begun to implement the decision of Russian President Putin on the implementation of visa-free policy for Chinese citizens. The news was announced by Condratiev, Director of the Department of Multilateral Economic Cooperation and Special Projects of the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia.
He said: "Our president said at the Oriental Economic Forum that the (video-free) decision of China was taking reciprocal measures. The decision must be implemented. All relevant departments have begun to carry out this important work."
Kundratiev pointed out that Russia's goal is to increase the incoming foreign tourists to 16 million a year by 2030. He introduced: "In view of all the decisions currently taken and the promotion work being carried out, we announced the goal of receiving 5.7 million Chinese tourists by 2030, which will account for about 35% of the total inbound tourists in Russia."
Kundratiev said that Russia has a heavy task in this regard and is currently vigorously promoting tourism to Russia overseas. He also said: "From the perspective of analyzing existing infrastructure, there is still a lot of work to be done in various regions to understand whether existing infrastructure can meet the growing flow of Chinese tourists."
Russian President Putin earlier said that Russia would implement a visa-free policy for Chinese citizens. From September 15, 2025 to September 14, 2026, China will pilot a 30-day visa-free policy for Russian people with ordinary passports.
