Imagine diving in a huge "fish tank" with a diameter of 16 meters, surrounded by transparent acrylic walls, crossing multiple floors, as if cruising in the air - this is not a science fiction movie, but a super project under construction in Shanghai Lingang.
"I never thought of diving in a building, and also going to shopping malls, drink coffee, and staying in a hotel!" This is the first reaction of many diving enthusiasts after hearing about the Lingang Xinghaihui project.
This "science fiction star ring" building located by the Dripping Lake has begun to take shape. It echoes the Shanghai Planetarium, with a total construction area of about 124,000 square meters, integrating culture, sports, commerce, hotels and offices.
The most eye-catching thing is of course the acrylic deep diving pool on the ground, which is as high as 22 meters, with a depth of 30.9 meters, which is the best in China.

Science fiction appearance, architectural miracle: Ring of the Starry Sky
The Lingang Xinghaihui project looks like a "star ring" falling from the sky, forming a wonderful spatial dialogue with the Shanghai Planetarium on the west side.
This building is not like a product. In order to perfectly present the design concept of "Ring of Stars", the project used a total of 38,000 tons of steel and consisted of 11,000 steel components.
These steels are not simply stacked, but form a large number of special-shaped structures such as arcs, large spans, large cantilevers, and curved surfaces. The maximum arc span is 68 meters and the maximum cantilever is 26 meters, which is the largest single space structure in Shanghai.
There is also a single-layer mesh shell roof of more than 500 tons, embedded in it like a rotating nebula. The facade curtain wall uses more than 10 design forms and lighting effects to create a visual atmosphere of "the sea of stars surging and the star rings are brilliant".

Deep diving pool: the highest "big fish tank" in China
This deep diving pool is definitely the highlight of the project. It has a diameter of 16 meters and a depth of 30.9 meters. The above-ground part is 22 meters high, which is taller than a 7-story residential building.
The pool wall uses fully transparent acrylic plexiglass, where you can experience the novel experience of "traversing the floor and swimming in the air".
Imagine that you are swimming in this transparent deep diving pool, where people outside can see you shuttle through the water, and you can also see business activities on various floors outside. This experience is absolutely unique in China.
In order to ensure safety, the project team has jointly developed a number of key technologies such as seamless splicing of acrylic super-thick plate materials, and has applied for 8 patents.

Engineering Challenge: Technological Breakthrough for Seamless Splicing
Building such a tall acrylic diving pool is not easy. The biggest challenge is the splicing and installation of the submersible pool wall. To achieve "seamlessness", it also needs to be sufficiently stress-resistant.
The project team joined forces with teams from many universities to overcome many technical problems. They not only developed seamless splicing technology for acrylic ultra-thick plate materials, but also solved a series of complex steel structure problems such as deepening design of complex nodes, processing and manufacturing of giant components and high-precision installation.
These technological breakthroughs not only make deep diving pools possible, but also accumulate valuable experience for the Chinese construction industry. The project has applied for 11 patents, participated in the group bidding, and published 1 SCI paper.
In September 2025, the project also hosted a national large-scale complex building steel structure design and construction technology exchange and engineering quality observation meeting, attracting more than 1,000 people to observe online and offline, becoming an engineering benchmark for technological empowerment and quality construction.

Multifunctional experience: not just diving
Xinghaihui project is not just a deep diving pool, it is a large sports complex integrating culture, sports, commerce, hotels and offices.
This means you can experience deep diving in the morning, shop and eat in the mall at noon, watch a movie in the afternoon, and stay in the hotel to enjoy the night view of the Dripping Lake.
This "culture, sports and tourism integration" model is a new trend in modern consumer experience, meeting consumers' various needs in one stop.
The project is close to Dripping Lake and is located in the southeast corner of Sponge Park in Starry Sky. It has a beautiful environment and a wide view, and has become a new landmark in Lingang.

Lingang New Landmark: An Important Part of the City Living Room
Xinghaihui project is a key cultural and tourism project in the Lingang New Area. It is developed and constructed by Shanghai Gangcheng Group and is generally contracted for construction by China Construction Eighth Bureau No. 1 Company.
The main structure of the project has been completed and the decoration and mechanical and electrical installation stages are underway. It is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
After completion, it will become a leading sports and leisure center in Lingang, helping to build the "urban living room" of Lingang.
This is also another masterpiece of China Construction Eighth Bureau No. 1 Company in the Lingang New Area. They have previously built a series of boutique projects such as Shanghai Port City Plaza, Tesla Shanghai Super Factory, and Shanghai Haichang Park.

The Xinghaihui project is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
At that time, it will not only be a sports place, but also a carrier of a new lifestyle - allowing ordinary people to touch the charm of extreme sports in their daily lives and feel the shock of science fiction.
In the future, in Lingang, people will no longer just stop and watch, but can truly integrate into the fantasy experience of the starry sky and the ocean. This "Ring of Starry Sky" will attract countless people to check in and experience it, becoming a new business card for Lingang and even Shanghai.
