U.S. President Trump wrote to NATO countries on Saturday (September 13), calling on them to stop buying Russian oil and impose major sanctions on Russia, thus ending Russia's war in Ukraine.
Trump posted on social media: "When all NATO countries agree and start the same action, and all NATO countries stop buying oil from Russia, I am ready to impose major sanctions on Russia."
He also recommended that NATO, as a whole, impose 50% to 100% tariffs on China to weaken China's economic impact on Russia.
Previously, Trump threatened to sanction Moscow if no progress was made in ending the Ukrainian war and impose secondary sanctions on major buyers such as China and India that bought Russian oil.
Trump has imposed a 25% tariff on Indian goods, citing India's continued import of Russian oil but has not taken similar actions against China.
