Nepal collapse taught the world a lesson: some countries are doomed to fail from birth

2025-09-11 08:23:19 HKT

Nepal, the snow-capped Himalayas country that we rarely care about, has been completely inflicted in the past few days.

The young protesters pulled open the barricade with barbed wire with barbed wire, rushed into the homes of high-ranking officials and wealthy people, and smashed their mansions into pieces. The wife of former Prime Minister Jara Nath Kanal was even burned to death at home by furious protesters, and the scene was completely out of control.

The government ordered live-fire suppression, and 19 young people fell into pools of blood - this time, completely ignited the anger of the entire country. When I saw the blood, I could never go back.

What's the result? The Nepalese government, which just banned TikTok and Facebook, was instantly afraid. The ban was lifted and Prime Minister Prachanda resigned.

Prime Minister resigned

But all this is not accidental at all.

Why is it so big?

The direct fuse was that the government banned social media such as TikTok.

Does it sound like a big deal? But for Nepal, this is the last straw that broke the camel's back.

More than one-third of young people under the age of 30 in this country have no jobs. Their only spiritual sustenance every day is to browse their mobile phones and watch short videos. As a result, you will even deprive them of the last little cheap happiness?

What is even more exciting is that just when they are unemployed and desperate, the second-generation officials and the second-generation rich are still showing off their wealth on Instagram and Facebook - luxury cars, parties, and overseas travel, there are also many.

You don't show off your wealth, you block your phone? How can young people not fight you?

This is not a simple protest at all, but a complete class war. On the one hand are descendants of powerful people who do nothing and are so poor that they only have money left, while on the other hand are young people who cannot see the future and are even deprived of low-cost entertainment. Social media has become a mirror of demons, illuminating the tear-up of Nepali society clearly.

If we look at the time longer, the chaos in Nepal has long been foreshadowed.

Since the abolition of the monarchy in 2008, Nepal has actually changed 13 governments in 16 years! On average, each government takes less than one and a half years, which is shorter than the project cycle of some companies.

The Communist Party of Nepal was divided into seven factions, and the main political forces were divided into three factions:

Netherlands (United Marxism-Leninism) led by Oli represents the middle and upper rural classes and urban working class;

Netherlandic Communist Party (Maoism) led by Prachanda represents rural poor and mountainous indigenous people;

The Nepal Congress Party led by Deupa represents the pro-Indian forces in the south and the rich in urban areas.

These three factions are united all day long, and their minds are all devoted to fighting for power and profit. No one really cares about the future of the country. When all the political elites of a country are addicted to the game of power, the fate of the lower class people can be imagined.

But if we only see network closures, party struggles and suppression, it would be too shallow.

The problem with Nepal is that as a modern country, it may have been "innately deficient" since its birth.

The area is less than 150,000 square kilometers, which is a little smaller than our Shandong Province, but it has 30 million people. What concept? It is equivalent to stuffing the entire Chongqing population into half of Guangxi's land, and the degree of congestion can be imagined.

What's even more fatal is that Nepal was caught in two giants' questions: one is India and the other is China and Tibet. It is still an inland country and has no air outlet. There is no mine, no oil, no oil, no industry. How does it develop? What to rely on to support 30 million people?

It would be the same for anyone to come to power in a country like this. This is not a matter of route or policy, but a matter of the most basic living conditions.

We look back now and we will find a cruel reality:

Many countries in the world actually do not have the living conditions of "independent modern countries".

They do not have sufficient resources, location advantages, industrial potential, and even their basic population cannot be maintained. In peaceful times, aid and borrowing can be barely maintained; once global economic growth slows down, major powers can’t take care of themselves, or even enter the world’s turmoil, these countries will be the first to collapse.

Nepal is not the first, nor will it be the last. As global economic growth slows down and resource competition intensifies, we will see more and more such "failed countries".

This is a signal: the contradictions that are covered up when globalization is advancing rapidly are gradually being exposed. What many countries call "stability" is actually so fragile.

The turmoil in Nepal is not just an internal affairs of a country. Some countries have long been eyeing each other.

For India, Nepal is its traditional sphere of influence and naturally does not want to let go; for China, a stable Nepal is related to the stability of the Tibet region and the advancement of the Belt and Road Initiative; even the United States is observing in secret, trying to find opportunities to intervene.

The Nepal government's choice after this turmoil will be crucial: whether they can truly find a development path that is in the interests of the country.

If Nepal can recognize its position and develop its country well, it may find a glimmer of hope in the cracks. But if you continue to be addicted to party struggles and internal struggles, it will only put the country in an abyss that will never be restored.

There is a cruel reality, and we will see more "Nepal" appear in the future. The Russian-Ukrainian conflict, the Palestinian-Israeli issue, the Syrian civil war... these may just be the beginning, not the end.

How can China deal with these "failed countries" in the future changes? Is it a risk or an opportunity? How can our businesses, our investments, our foreign policy deal with such an increasingly turbulent world?

But no matter what, being born in a country that can make your country full and control your own destiny is a kind of luck.

While we complain about some inconvenience in life, there are still thousands of people in the world who are struggling for the most basic survival.

Cherish it.
