Universal Music Copyright China signed a contract with the "Folk Poet" Ma Tiao, and will represent its lyrics and music copyrights worldwide

Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG) China announced today that it has officially reached a global exclusive lyrics and music copyright agreement with "folk poet" and mainland Chinese singer-songwriter Ma Tiao. This cooperation is a recognition of Mazhao's long-term and stable creative strength and work influence, and also reflects the strategic layout of Universal Music Copyright China to continue to deepen its local original content and improve copyright operation scenarios. In the future, the two parties will work together around the registration and management of works, authorization and distribution, derivatives and promotion, etc., so that the world can better hear and feel the sincere power of Chinese original music.

The signing ceremony was held at Universal Music China Shanghai Company. As a witness of cooperation, Sun Jiayao, managing director of Universal Music Copyright Management Group China Company, presented a Gibson guitar to Matiao, wishing Matiao's future creative journey more exciting.

The natural and humanistic environment of Karamay, Xinjiang, are his spiritual hometown. Ma Tiao's early works such as "The Blockade" and "How Long is Loneliness", are mostly based on personal emotional experiences and observations of daily life. These works are also widely sung because of their sincerity and touchingness, fully reflecting the lasting vitality of their works across style and era.

After entering the mature stage of creation, the albums "Master" and "Bonfire" won the "Best Folk Music Awards" and "Best Folk Music of the Year" awards; in 2011, it won the "Best Mandarin Male Singer" and "Best Rock Artist Award" for the album "You Found the Wrong Place"; the "Garden" album released in 2024 has won the "Digital Album of the Year" of the first Digital Music Annual Ceremony, the "2024 Quality Album" of the Music Finance MBIA Industry Chart and the "Best Folk Album" of the 3rd Inspur Music Awards.

This folk poet who came out of Karamay, Xinjiang, has conquered countless music fans with his simple and affectionate music. His works have also been well known to more listeners through the covers of different outstanding singers. In the mid-1990s, Ma Tiao created the songs "Waiting" and "Time Shepherd Boy" for Lao Lang and Ye Bei. In recent years, his works such as "Autumn Words", "Follower", and "Flower", have been re-interpreted by outstanding singers such as Liu Huan, Huang Qishan, and Jike Junyi.

The 2018 Ma Tiao's work "Give Gift" was released. It has touched countless listeners with its simple and touching lyrics, simple and moving melody and powerful artistic appeal. In the movie "Heart" directed by Dapeng and starring Huang Bo and Wang Yibo, the heartwarming expression of "Give Gift" perfectly fits the theme expression of the film and leaves a deep impression on the audience.
