In order to thoroughly implement the national food security strategy, seed industry revitalization action and other major national decisions and deployments, and to help the construction of the regional innovation system of the national laboratory, on September 10, Huang Siguang, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School, Professor Kang Zhensheng, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Fang Yulin, Vice President, and Wang Jun, Deputy Secretary of the Party Working Committee of the Yangling Demonstration Zone, and others went to Yazhouwan National Laboratory to conduct research and discussions on seed industry scientific and technological innovation, scientific research platform construction, and agricultural development in arid areas.

Li Jiayang, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Director of the Yazhou Bay National Laboratory, Li Lihui, Chief Scientist of the Wheat Germplasm Innovation and New Variety Cultivation Team of the Yazhou Bay National Laboratory, Xu Miaoyun, Director of the Corn Genome Breeding Team of the Yazhou Bay National Laboratory, and responsible persons from relevant departments of the Yazhou Bay National Laboratory attended the symposium. The meeting was chaired by Xia Shu, Assistant Director of the Yazhou Bay National Laboratory.
Li Jiayang welcomed Huang Siguang and his party to visit, and introduced in detail the mission positioning, scientific research organization model and phased achievements of Yazhou Bay National Laboratory. He pointed out that as the only national laboratory in the agricultural field, Yazhouwan National Laboratory shoulders the important mission of ensuring national food security and promoting seed industry scientific and technological self-reliance and self-improvement. The laboratory actively explores a new national scientific research organization model, strengthens collaborative cooperation with universities, research institutes and enterprises, promotes open sharing of resources, and builds a scientific research system that represents the national level. He said that the strategic significance of arid agriculture in the context of global climate change is becoming increasingly prominent. Northwest A&F University has a strong scientific research foundation in the field of arid agriculture, and the cooperation between the two sides is huge. We look forward to deepening cooperation in the innovation of germplasm resources, scientific research platform construction, talent training, etc. in the future to jointly serve national food security.
Huang Siguang introduced our school's research foundation and advantages in agricultural and seed industry innovation in arid areas. He said that the school has always adhered to the strategy of facing arid areas and serving the country, and has achieved good results in recent years in breeding of crops such as wheat, corn and rape, as well as breeding of major livestock and poultry such as cattle and sheep. We hope to take this investigation and exchange as an opportunity to integrate the resources and forces of the school and Yangling Demonstration Zone, further strengthen cooperation with Yazhouwan National Laboratory, jointly promote seed industry technology self-reliance and self-improvement, and contribute to ensuring national food security and promoting high-quality agricultural development in arid areas.
Kang Zhensheng said that the school has a solid foundation of cooperation with Yazhou Bay National Laboratory, and the two sides have achieved good cooperation results in wheat germplasm innovation, disease prevention and control, and variety promotion. In recent years, Yangling has actively promoted the construction of seed industry innovation centers and has made a series of progress in seed industry innovation in arid areas such as germplasm resources, key genes, key technologies and varieties of stress resistance. It is hoped that it can cooperate more closely with Yazhou Bay Laboratory in combination with the strategic needs of agricultural development in arid areas.
Wang Jun introduced the Yangling Demonstration Zone's "district-school integration and integrated development" strategy. Through a multi-level communication and contact mechanism, he continuously strengthened the foundation of scientific and technological innovation, supported universities stationed in the district to create more than 60 provincial and ministerial scientific research platforms, established major projects for collaborative innovation in industry, academia, research and application, and achieved a number of important scientific and technological achievements in key areas of agriculture in arid areas. He said that the Yangling Demonstration Zone will fully support the in-depth cooperation between the school and Yazhou Bay Laboratory, provide guarantees in terms of policy support, land supply and project funds, and build a leading and influential modern agricultural innovation highland in China.
